Borderlands 2 – Bring Friends? Ok Then!
I really enjoyed Borderlands.. ignoring my initial confusion over weapons, at least. Once we’d sorted out the questing.. I don’t tend to like running back and forth between points without knowing what’s going on.. it was good fun with friends too.
So for Borderlands 2, I’m playing with friends again, though it does mean slow progress as we have to all be available at the same time. This should give me a chance to check the story out properly, and explore a bit.. but I’m playing through Dragon Age: Origins still. Can’t have everything, tho 😉
As one friend nabbed Zer0, I chose Maya, the Siren. I wasn’t sure about her special ability at first.. I liked and wanted the Phasewalking ability still.. but Phaselock has turned out to be more useful to the group and a little bit more fun as I can trap huge enemies in the air! The Mechromancer will be available in another two weeks, and as we all pre-ordered, we’ll be able to try her out, or fight over her, fairly soon 🙂
Trying to Complete Games..
It’s a rather uphill struggle, if I’m honest.. even if we ignore the games that have no end, such as WoW, I seem to be acquiring games faster than I can finish them! We picked up Borderlands 2 on pre-order, Tim bought us copies of Torchlight II, and Jay’s bought me Orcs Must Die! 2, along with add-ons Fire and Water and Family Ties! 😀
The confirmation of Dragon Age III: Inquisition reminded me that I haven’t finished either of the previous two in the series; I lost my save in DA:O thanks to a reformat a long while back, and because I hadn’t finished that, I didn’t start on Dragon Age II.
So, I’ve now restarted Dragon Age: Origins.. I’m on the Ultimate Edition this time round, too, as Tim picked that up for me last year! I went with the Human Noble Rogue again, mainly because I wanted to start in the Castle. I’d have gone with a Mage but they all start off in the Circle.. second playthrough ahoy! (more…)
Theramore’s Fall – Horde Side!
I finally got around to playing through Theramore’s Fall, the Horde version of the first of the new Scenarios for World of Warcraft.. and only just in time, really, as this was the last night where it would be available before the launch of Mists!
I would have liked to try the Alliance version, too, which takes place after the events of this Horde version.. but the highest Alliance character I have isn’t even 20 yet. Once the new expansion goes live, the scenario will return for level 90 players, though that still means levelling an Alliance character all the way up!
The backstory for the scenario comes from the novel Tides of War: Theramore had been fortified and aided by Alliance commanders, and had subsequently come under attack by the Horde.. and though a spy had helped the attackers gain access to the city, they still lost the battle. Garrosh had intended this, though, planning to catch the commanders all together with a highly-destructive mana bomb.
The first stage of the scenario had us rigging powder barrels on the Alliance ships.. and of course, killing the guards too 😉
Iron Brigade
We recently acquired Iron Brigade, a World War I style tower defense-shooter hybrid with mechs and turrets, and a television-based enemy called the Monovision. I spotted this game a long time back, when it was known as Trenched, because of the developer Double Fine who came up with this game as well as Costume Quest and Stacking during one fortnight of development. A trademark dispute in Europe resulted in a name change, and a delay to the release: December last year on the Xbox, but only this month for the PC.. and another rather quiet release too.
Tekkit and Terraforming!
After our switch to cheating via the Not Enough Items interface, I lost interest in building the machines I had started on.. if I could have any item I wanted, I didn’t need to bother mining for resources!
I wanted to make some buildings and try out all the new blocks.. covers, panels, strips, corners.. and coloured lamp blocks and Luminators. I wanted some nice flat land for this too.. so I went to look at the Terraformer. The Terraformer can flatten land, turn it into a desert, or grassland, can add plants and trees to existing land, irrigate or chill the area to snow.
Back to Modded Minecraft!
I’ve wanted to come back to the Technic Pack for a while.. but I had put it off because of messing around updates and .bin files.. I was still playing with VoxelSniper on an old server build and was avoiding updating my client. However, two things happened: I discovered the rather awesome Technic Launcher, which lets you switch between vanilla and a few Minecraft mods from a nice drop down list.. and a friend decided that he wanted to try out the Technic Pack too, and replaced our regular Minecraft server with a Tekkit server.
Left 4 Dead 2 – Deathcraft II
Deathcraft II is a rather impressive mod and campaign for Left 4 Dead 2.. turning it into something that looks just like Minecraft!
Fear 3 Completed!
I picked up F.E.A.R. 3 during the recent Steam sales.. and before I could get round to playing by myself, a friend invited me along to co-op..
The host of the game plays as Point Man, so I played as his brother Fettel.. back from the dead and ghostly, with some very interesting psychic abilities! Without a body, I could still do damage from afar with a psychic blast, or up-close with a melee attack.. I could also levitate my enemies, pinning them in place for my friend to shoot.. a rather useful tactic at times, or shield him from damage.
My favourite by far was Fettel’s ability to take over and possess the various opposition forces we met! All I needed was a clear line of sight to first suspend them, and then get into their head.. with Fettel’s evil laugh echoing in my ears!
Majesty 2 – Completed!
Well, I’ve completed the campaign at least.. I have the extra missions, and various expansions to go! 😉
I was surprised, but pleased, by how tough some of the missions have been.. The Royal Feat caused me some trouble, though it did teach me to get heroes started on enemy nests as soon as possible, both for levelling and so that they start earning and spending reward money.
The next mission was the Mortal Foibles of Kings, in which I had to capture and defeat King Rat..
SimCity Social
During E3, I saw mention of a new, reinvented Sim City.. with city specialisation, intelligent Sims who will react to the city you’ve planned and built, and the option to work with friends and interact with their cities or create large projects together. It’s due in 2013.. but I already know I want this game!
In the meantime, EA have released SimCity Social on Facebook.
SimCity Social places you in charge of your own city, which evolves as you interact with it.. placing buildings and roads and interacting with them either as a good or bad Mayor. If friends are playing, you can visit their cities and interact with them too, building up a friendly relationship or rivalry.
