Wildstar Reloaded – Part 2: This time, It’s not lagging!

It’s safe to say that Wildstar has had a bit of a rough re-launch this week. Thankfully Carbine have been on the ball and have taken action to try to improve the situation for all players, with the addition of some extra hardware and more servers to spread the load, while they try to fix the back-end problems with their Megaserver technology.

I’ve used the time on the new PVE EU server, Jabbit-2, to have a proper run at the game now, as well as to poke around the in-game cash shop a bit more.

Wildstar Reloaded – Part 1: The Free to Play Model

I played Sci-Fi Western style MMO Wildstar way back when it first launched last year, and whilst my impressions were mostly positive, some of the core hooks for an MMO weren’t really ready for the big time.

A year later, Carbine Studios are releasing the biggest content update to Wildstar yet: Wildstar Reloaded (trailer). Can this new update breathe new life into the game? And more importantly, can it encourage new players to give it a try?

World of Warcraft: Legion

Blizzard have announced the new expansion for World of Warcraft at Gamescom 2015.  In World of Warcraft: Legion, the demons of the Burning Legion pour into Azeroth, where they hope to summon the Dark Titan..

Back to WoW for the Iron Tide

I returned to WoW yesterday, just in time for Patch 6.0.2: The Iron Tide..

What an awesome cinematic!  I thought it set the scene for the invasion rather well.  Patch 6.0.2 adds the Iron Horde Incursion, through the Dark Portal..

Red Portal and Incursion

Looking to Gamescom 2014

We’re just a week away from Gamescom 2014 now.. time to catch up on what’s happening in the gaming world!

Amongst the more interesting headlines.. Valve is rumoured to have slipped the Source 2 engine out, via the Dota 2 Workshop tools.  Fans of the game found references to Source 2 in file names and routines, and the new and improved engine has been rumoured for a while.  Valve has made no comment as yet, so we’ll have to wait and see..

Blizzard will be celebrating World of Warcraft’s 10 year anniversary this November with some in-game activities.  Players can look forward to Tarren Mill vs Southshore, a special 40 player Raid Finder version of Molten Core and a Molten Corgi pet for those logging in during the event.

Ubisoft have released screenshots and gameplay details about their newest Settlers game, Kingdoms of Anteria.  Part city builder, part action strategy, Kingdoms of Anteria allows players to build, manage and expand their kingdom, whilst fighting enemies to gain loot and resources with up to four players.  Closed beta launches soon.

BioWare has been teasing something with their short videos (You’ve Been Chosen).. we won’t have to wait long to find out what this one’s all about, as a special fan event takes place next week, at the beginning of Gamescom 2014.

World of Warcraft Patch 5.4: Siege of Orgrimmar

World of Warcraft patch 5.4 is on the way, following the story of Horde Warchief Garrosh Hellscream and his wish to form a new Horde..

World of Warcraft Patch 5.2: The Thunder King

Lei Shen has consolidated his power on the Isle of Thunder, and if he’s not dislodged, his reborn army will threaten all of Pandaria..

World of Warcraft – 8 Year Anniversary

Blizzard have created a celebratory video for World of Warcraft, which turns 8 on the 23rd November!

Mists of Pandaria Has Launched!

Mists of Pandaria launched at midnight last night in the UK, adding the Pandaren race, starting areas and the Pandaren continent for level 90s, and the Monk class.

Theramore’s Fall – Horde Side!

I finally got around to playing through Theramore’s Fall, the Horde version of the first of the new Scenarios for World of Warcraft.. and only just in time, really, as this was the last night where it would be available before the launch of Mists!

I would have liked to try the Alliance version, too, which takes place after the events of this Horde version.. but the highest Alliance character I have isn’t even 20 yet.  Once the new expansion goes live, the scenario will return for level 90 players, though that still means levelling an Alliance character all the way up!

The backstory for the scenario comes from the novel Tides of War: Theramore had been fortified and aided by Alliance commanders, and had subsequently come under attack by the Horde.. and though a spy had helped the attackers gain access to the city, they still lost the battle.  Garrosh had intended this, though, planning to catch the commanders all together with a highly-destructive mana bomb.

The first stage of the scenario had us rigging powder barrels on the Alliance ships.. and of course, killing the guards too 😉
