The (Abusive) Boyfriend Trainer

There’s a somewhat controversial app on iTunes at the moment: Boyfriend Trainer, by Games2win.

In the game, players zap and beat their man to “train” him, i.e., prevent such unwanted behaviours as watching sport, leaving his clothes on the floor, or eyeing up other women.  This last crime apparently warrants the girl spraying mace in his eyes!

Diablo III Hardcore, or, Am I Mad?

I’ve been playing more Diablo III this week, with a Barbarian who is great fun to play, wading into packs of enemies, and so much tougher than the Demon Hunter that it may as well be a different game.  Of course the various patches and tweaks have helped, but there’s more interesting loot drops too.. three Legendary items in my trip through Normal.  Though I died to Belial (not getting out of his mess quickly enough), I managed Diablo with ease, unlike when I met him with my Demon Hunter. Playing PISS

Yes, PISS.  I spotted this over on RPS, and thought it just some clever title for an article.. but it turns out to be a rather interesting point and click adventure game called PISS, created by Ben Chandler and the Falling Skywards team as part of the Summerbatch collection.  It’s not on sale at the moment, though a download link was made available for RPS.

PISS is the story of a mercenary called Moira, who suffers from nightmares and drinks to forget.

Stay Dead Demo

Over the weekend, I checked out the demo for Stay Dead, a unique motion picture game by Brucefilm featuring round-based live action fighting with rhythm style controls.

Legendary Pants

I completed Diablo III a while back, with a Demon Hunter.. and played around a little in Nightmare mode.  I remember being frustrated because I had to resort to the Auction House: I wasn’t able to take on Diablo in the gear I’d found or crafted along the way.  The loot drops were poor, and crafting was just too expensive and too hit-and-miss in terms of the magic effects.  When you have to craft four or five pairs of boots to get a pair with your primary stat, that’s not fun.

Dead Space 3 Demo Preview

I got my early access key for the Dead Space 3 demo on Tuesday, for the Xbox 360, and finally got around to taking a look last night.  As well as the usual single player missions, this demo includes a preview of the new Co-Op mode and the Weapon Crafting Arena.

The demo starts with Isaac Clarke leaving his crashed ship and wading through deep snow.. it’s a beautifully created world out here in the snow, such a harsh atmosphere and a whistling wind that made me feel cold just hearing it.  You’re prompted to hurry along and find shelter before you die of exposure.. so through the snow, past a few enemies with horrible, sprouting appendages, onto shaky, collapsing platforms..

Miasmata: Completed!

Miasmata was an early Christmas present from a friend.. a first-person survival horror created by two-man team IonFx.  Not only did they create the entire game themselves, they also wrote the MILO engine that powers the game!

The War Z Farce

The War Z launched on Steam yesterday, and is unfortunately the current top seller on the platform.

‘Unfortunately’, because the game is blatantly unfinished, and the developers’ all-round attitude and behaviour has been an utter disgrace. (more…)

A Day on the Couch: ZombiU and Hotlinking

Yesterday was all planned out.. I wanted to get on with some Minion Master, get slapped about some more in Dark Souls, and follow that up with these Blender tutorials.  However, my PC had other ideas: hanging on the GRUB loader, giving Error 22 and pretending to have a failed HDD.  I say pretending, because it turned out later that the drive was fine.. the PC was just trying to boot from the wrong drive.

So, off to the couch.. and another few hours of trying to survive in ZombiU! (more…)

VGA 10 Trailers and Info Round-Up!

This year’s Video Game Awards, shown last night, was also the 10th anniversary of the VGAs.  This year’s show was hosted by Samuel L. Jackson, and I have to just ask the question.. Why pick a host known for non-stop swearing, if you then have to censor half of what he says?  Anyways, I didn’t enjoy last year’s show at all.. so this time I’ve skipped through the show’s episodes on GameTrailers, looking for the interesting bits.. i.e., the trailers and news!

The first trailer was for Obsidian Entertainment‘s South Park: The Stick of Truth (from 4.54), and a rather interesting announcement trailer for The Phantom Pain, the debut game from Moby Dick Studios (from 10.45)!
