Valve have now opened up the Steam for Linux beta to all! To participate, download the client here.
The War Z Pulled From Steam!
Kotaku have just reported that Hammerpoint Interactive’s controversial zombie survival MMO The War Z has now been pulled from Steam, with Valve calling the release “a mistake”. The product page remains in place, though the game can no longer be purchased.
This follows widespread reports of misleading claims about the game content, forum censorship and unfair bans, and the War Z development team’s rude and condescending remarks about paying customers. Our round-up of the War Z problems can be found over here.
Those who now wish to seek a refund through Steam can now do so by creating a ticket.

The War Z launched on Steam yesterday, and is unfortunately the current top seller on the platform.
‘Unfortunately’, because the game is blatantly unfinished, and the developers’ all-round attitude and behaviour has been an utter disgrace. (more…)

The Steam Community Market has now entered Beta, allowing players to buy and sell items for Steam Wallet funds.
Gabe Newell Confirms A Next-Gen Valve Game Engine
A week ago, a group of fans visited Valve headquarters for Gabe Newell’s birthday to present him with a birthday card and a TF2 style crate; Gabe had to pay $2.50 for a key to unlock the crate, which contained a combat helmet like the TF2 Soldier’s.

Steam for Linux Beta Now Available
Valve have now launched a limited access beta for the new Steam for Linux client.
The client is initially available for installation on Ubuntu 12.04, as the majority of beta applicants use it; support for other distros will be added in the future, based on user feedback.
The Steam for Linux client supports Team Fortress 2 and a number of other Steam titles; the client also includes the beta for Steam’s Big Picture.
Steam’s Big Picture Out On Beta
Valve have now released the beta for Steam’s new Big Picture mode!
Big Picture is a reformatted version of Steam for use with your TV and optional game controller.. and in addition to all the usual Steam features, there’s a first person web browser and Daisywheel, a new tool for typing with the controller.
Mann vs. Machine goes Live
Mann vs. Machine, the new co-op game for TF2 is now live!
This mode lets you and five friends work together to fight off waves of robots.. upgrade weapons, items and abilities.. and claim the spoils of war in the form of cosmetic items, in Mann Up mode.
Mann Up Mode is played on official Mann Co. servers, with entry limited to players who own a Tour of Duty Ticket. Tour of Duty Tickets can be purchased from the Mann Co. Store for £0.59. (more…)

The Steam Summer Sale is now live, and will be running from July 12th to July 22nd!
Several bundles, including eleven indie bundles, were leaked last week, but each day also brings other heavily-discounted games!
New deals will appear each day. Every eight hours there’s also the Community’s Choice, where you can vote for your favourite of three offers on display, and several Flash Deals, which are available for a much shorter time!
