Back to WoW for the Iron Tide

I returned to WoW yesterday, just in time for Patch 6.0.2: The Iron Tide..

What an awesome cinematic!  I thought it set the scene for the invasion rather well.  Patch 6.0.2 adds the Iron Horde Incursion, through the Dark Portal..

Netherwing

Since a friend showed me his Netherwing Drake, I’ve wanted one.. however, it required Exalted reputation with Netherwing, and this has taken rather a long time to earn via quests in Shadowmoon Valley.

I met a random player in the Mines, who was looking for Netherwing Eggs.  He was under the impression that the only way to reach Exalted was via turning in the eggs.. but I found the quests were a more reliable source of reputation gains, and while slower, they were less frustrating.  I only found a few eggs after I’d started looking for them, and when I came across a suggested route, I discovered that flying and looking around gave me motion sickness!  This has to be due to flying, as I had no problems running around looking for Easter eggs during Noblegarden.

I finally made it to Exalted yesterday, and went back to Shattrath to claim my own Drake 🙂

I picked the Veridian Netherwing Drake as the quest reward, but have also been back to Netherwing Ledge to purchase the others for 200g apiece 😀

Children’s Week Pets and the Sea Turtle!

Children’s Week brought the opportunity to grab a few more additions to my pet collection, with Speedy from the quests in Orgrimmar, the Curious Wolvar Pup from Dalaran, and Peanut from the quests in Shattrath!

Archaeology Pets

Archaeology was added to WoW as a secondary profession with the Cataclysm expansion, and one of the first things I heard about it was that I could get a pet through it.  However, I was also told that the pet depended on lots of grinding and some luck..

I’ve made a few runs for Archaeology, usually combining it with herb collecting or visiting a digsite if it was on my route, and I’ve collected a couple of toys: Ancient Amber, which traps your character in a chunk of amber for a while; the Druid and Priest Statue, which produces a beam of green light, and the Haunted War Drum, which sets a ghostly drum on the ground and plays a little drum sound too. 🙂

Only a few days back, I completed a Fossil artifact and found that my next one would be the Fossilized Hatchling!  Today, I completed it!

Proto-Drake Whelp

My 80th pet was a good one, from a friend.. the Proto-Drake Whelp!

He has the same model as the Red Proto-Drake 🙂

This pet came from the Mysterious Egg, which can be bought from the Oracles in Sholazar Basin once you have Revered Reputation.
This egg drops other pets as well as a mount.. so I should get myself over there 😉

Hatchlings!

I was given another two pets today.. the Ravasaur Hatchling and the Darting Hatchling! 🙂

The Darting Hatchling runs away rather like the Mulgore Hatchling does, with a little cloud of dust at his feet!

Vorlak found these pets while fighting dinosaurs in the nude, as he tells me.. he is currently collecting mounts and now has over 70!

Numberswise.. I am now one away from the 75 mark, where I’ll get the Lil’ Game Hunter achievement and the Little Fawn’s Salt Lick reward 😉

Obsidian Sanctum

Tonight’s raid of choice was Obsidian Sanctum.. this was a return visit as we’ve previously been unable to beat Sartharion..

We’re chasing achievements as well as mounts and other loot, so again we started by killing the trash but leaving the drakes alive.

As in previous attempts, we were wiped out when Tenebron joined in as he hit our Paladin way too hard.  In the end our Warrior went back into his tanking spec.. he was more able to take a beating to the face and we finally killed Sartharion and his friends off!

One of the prizes here was the Reins of the Black Drake, which was won by Vorlak to add another mount to his growing collection.

I won the Dragon Hide Bag, which means I have more room in my bags for random stuff 😉

After this success we headed back to Serpentshrine Cavern, to try and complete what we were unable to finish yesterday.
With an extra person in the team, the second phase of the fight with Lady Vashj was much easier.. we had less interference when passing the Tainted Cores between us and switched off Lady Vashj’s shield generators fairly quickly.  Killing her after that was no problem 🙂

I also grabbed the Helm of the Vanquished Defender, bringing my collection of Tier 5 Priest Gear to Helm, Gloves and Leggings..

Brewfest Rams

So it’s Brewfest..time to get drunk!

This event involves lots of drinks, some fun quests involving drinking, racing rams, and taking on a disgruntled rival brewer, Coren Direbrew.

I was lucky enough to get the Swift Brewfest Ram, as were a few other guildmates but sadly not all. Yet.  Keeping my fingers crossed there..
