VGA 10 Trailers and Info Round-Up!

This year’s Video Game Awards, shown last night, was also the 10th anniversary of the VGAs.  This year’s show was hosted by Samuel L. Jackson, and I have to just ask the question.. Why pick a host known for non-stop swearing, if you then have to censor half of what he says?  Anyways, I didn’t enjoy last year’s show at all.. so this time I’ve skipped through the show’s episodes on GameTrailers, looking for the interesting bits.. i.e., the trailers and news!

The first trailer was for Obsidian Entertainment‘s South Park: The Stick of Truth (from 4.54), and a rather interesting announcement trailer for The Phantom Pain, the debut game from Moby Dick Studios (from 10.45)!

In this trailer, we see a character woken up from a coma with a prosthetic arm.. soon, the hospital is under attack with fire, smoke, and unknown military forces dragging away and killing other patients.  Rumours around the web say this is possibly a surprise reveal for another Metal Gear Solid game..

Naughty Dog‘s The Last of Us had another trailer (from 2.45).. and a worldwide release date of 7th May 2013!  Meanwhile, Konami showed their premiere trailer for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 (from 4.45)..

In Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, Dracula returns after centuries of sleep, weakened and thirsting, and having to regain his powers.

Dark Souls II, sequel to one of the year’s hardest games, Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition, was announced with a cinematic trailer (from 2.28)!

Dark Souls II will feature a new character and new storyline, and a whole new unfamiliar world filled with gruesome enemies.  The game is in development by FromSoftware, to be published by Namco Bandai for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Ubisoft’s latest DLC for Assassin’s Creed III was announced.. Assassin’s Creed III: The Tyranny of King Washington (from 4.05), followed by the premiere of Gears of War: Judgement (from 7.55), from Epic Games and People Can Fly!

Gears of War: Judgement is due out in March 2013, for the Xbox 360.

There was also some gameplay and footage from Crystal Dynamics’ Tomb Raider, due for release on 5th March 2013 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

There was combat from Irrational Games’ BioShock Infinite, now due out on 26th March: the release date was pushed back again in order to allow the team more time to polish the game.

343 Industries also announced that their episodic co-op campaign, Halo 4: Spartan Ops, will return with five more episodes from 21 Jan.

Awards-wise, The Walking Dead won Game of the Year, while developer Telltale Games took Studio of the Year.  Zombies are still going strong!  Borderlands 2 picked up Best Shooter, Multiplayer and Character.. for Claptrap.. that last being quite surprising since I’ve not heard a good word said about him by anyone!  The award for Best Indie Game was picked up by Journey, the PS3 exclusive adventure game by Thatgamecompany.  There was an award for Best Game of the Decade too, and this was won by Half Life 2, which was originally released in November 2004.
