Wildstar Reloaded – Part 2: This time, It’s not lagging!

It’s safe to say that Wildstar has had a bit of a rough re-launch this week. Thankfully Carbine have been on the ball and have taken action to try to improve the situation for all players, with the addition of some extra hardware and more servers to spread the load, while they try to fix the back-end problems with their Megaserver technology.

Wildstar Reloaded – Part 1: The Free to Play Model

I played Sci-Fi Western style MMO Wildstar way back when it first launched last year, and whilst my impressions were mostly positive, some of the core hooks for an MMO weren’t really ready for the big time.

Albion Online Introduces Upgradable Islands

In preparation for the closed beta of the first true cross-platform sandbox MMORPG Albion Online this November, developer Sandbox Interactive continues to bring good news to the fans of the Albion Universe – one of the most unique features, Albion’s system of Private Islands, receives a highly anticipated ‘upgrade’.  After listening to community requests to expand upon the idea, the developers decided to improve the player experience by introducing different island levels with additional building and farming plots, as well as a broader variety of decorative options so that players can customize the environment.

Star Trek Online goes F2P For All

Cryptic Studios‘ MMO RPG Star Trek Online goes free-to-play for all today, following two weeks of free play for previous customers of the game.

Star Trek Online was originally released in February 2010, with updates being added at regular intervals throughout 2010 and 2011.  The game originally launched with two payment options: the usual monthly subscription, and a Lifetime subscription, which waived the monthly fee.  Additional content was also made available through microtransactions using Cryptic Points or the C-Store.

Existing subscribers become Gold Players, with the same access to the game as they have had up until now, while free, or Silver players will be able to explore the Star Trek universe as the captain of their own ship, but with a few restrictions compared to Gold members.  They will also have access to additional content via the C-Store or through Cryptic Points, the in-game and web-based virtual goods store.
