Star Wars: The Old Republic – Expanded Free to Play Version

EA have announced that Star Wars: The Old Republic will get an expanded F2P version later this year, allowing players to take on any of the eight character classes up to level 50, from the current limit of 15.

Subscriptions will still be available for players who want unrestricted access to the entire game; Free to Play players will have some restrictions on access to new content and advanced player features.

A new virtual currency, Cartel Coins, is to be added later this year too.  Cartel Coins can be used to purchase customisable gear and other extras.  Subscribers will receive an ongoing monthly allowance, while Free to Play players will be able to purchase these to ‘unlock’ features.

BioWare have said that they will be increasing the frequency of game content updates, beginning in August.  To reward current subscribers, Cartel Coin grants will be awarded, along with access to special in-game items. Even former players who re-activate now will qualify for these special benefits; to learn more, visit this page.
