EA Plan Microtransactions For All Games

EA are planning to include microtransactions in all their games going forward.

“We’re building into all of our games the ability to pay for things along the way, either to get to a higher level to buy a new character, to buy a truck, a gun, whatever it might be”, said EA’s Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President, speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference (via Eurogamer).

EA came under fire from gamers when they added microtransactions to Dead Space 3, a game which they were charging a premium price for; Blake even said that fans are “enjoying and embracing” the idea of added microtransactions.

Dead Space 3 was apparently playable without forking out for extra resources.. but will this hold true in the future, when all of EA’s games have been designed to include microtransactions?

When the focus is on finding out how to get players to spend more money, it isn’t on making the game a fun, rewarding experience.  What’s to stop a microtransaction-fixated team from raising the difficulty of a boss fight so that you need a better gun?  Or reducing the ammo or health packs available in an area of the game?  Pay up or grind to get by.. neither sounds like much fun.
