E3 2015 – Microsoft

Microsoft’s E3 2015 Conference was up first, with a few new reveals, including the announcement of the Xbox One finally getting backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 games, and Xbox Game Preview, an early access program, and a new Elite controller, which features swappable parts.

Action-adventure ReCore, from Keiji Inafune and the makers of Metroid Prime, will be an Xbox One exclusive..

As one of the last remaining humans, players must forge friendships with courageous robot companions and explore a mysterious, dynamic world.  ReCore has a release estimate for Spring 2016.

EA announced Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, featuring new gameplay, characters and worlds.  The shooter and tower defense game will be out in Spring 2016, for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Dark Souls 3 was announced with the following cinematic trailer..

The embers of a once proud kingdom set the stage for this new adventure, where players will battle fearsome enemies with a variety of weapons and magic.  And die a lot.

Dark Souls 3 is due for release in early 2016, for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Rare announced Rare Replay, a collection of 30 classic Rare games which will be available from 4th August 2015, and Sea of Thieves, a pirate-themed multiplayer game which will be exclusive to the Xbox One.

Gears of War 4 has been confirmed, with a trailer showing two new characters exploring a dark environment and facing off against a variety of new enemies!

The release date for Gears of War 4 is set for holiday 2016.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition was also announced.. a remastered version of the original Gears of War, which released in 2006.  The Ultimate Edition will feature improved graphics, running at 1080p at 60fps.  The beta is now live, for Xbox Live subscribers.

There was a video documentary for Halo 5: Guardians, with new multiplayer mode, Warzone, and behind-the-scenes video.

Forza Motorsport 6 was confirmed with some high-speed racing gameplay footage; the game is due for release in September 2015.

Ubisoft weighed in with a new trailer for Tom Clancy’s The Division, due early 2016, and revealed that there will be an Xbox One beta in December.  There were also more details for Rainbow Six Siege with a reveal trailer for the White Masks and the Terrorist Hunt Co-Op Trailer.

The spotlight was turned on Fallout 4 again, with reference to mod support: mods created on the PC can be shared to players on the Xbox One.  The Xbox One version of Fallout 4 will come bundled with Fallout 3 when it releases in November.

Motiga’s free to play shooter MOBA Gigantic got a new gameplay trailer featuring combat classes and characters.  A Beta was announced for August, and signups are open now.

A selection of Microsoft’s indie games were shown: space exploration game Tacoma, space-based MMO Ion and Beyond Eyes, an imaginative adventure game about a blind girl, will be available for PC and Xbox One, while open-world action-RPG Ashen and run and gun action game Cuphead will be exclusive to the Xbox One.  Over 1000 developers are said to be creating Xbox One games through the indie game developer programme.

Crystal Dynamics revealed gameplay for Rise of the Tomb Raider, along with a timed release date of 10th November 2015 for the Xbox One.

Rise of the Tomb Raider shows Lara Croft beginning her journey, seeking out the truth behind myths around the world.  The game will include a crafting system, with players able to scavenge for parts to create useful items, as well as a weather system that NPCs react to, as well as a day-night cycle.  Combat has been improved, with options for stealth and sneak attacks as well as outright avoidance by climbing trees and travelling across rooftops.

A trailer for Fable Legends presented the game’s story from the Villian’s point of view.. where Heroes are intruders in a land that does not want them!

Fable Legends will be free to play when it releases for Windows 10 and Xbox One, in Holiday 2015.

Microsoft also demoed a version of Minecraft compatible with Microsoft HoloLens, with a simulated HoloLens feed.. and it looked amazing!
