They have also announced that the PlayStation 4 will have no requirement for an online check-in, and that it will support used games.  Disc-based PlayStation 4 games can be traded in at retail, or lent to friends with no restrictions.

However, a PlayStation Plus subscription will be required for online play on the PlayStation 4, with current PS3 memberships transferring over to PS4.  Three month subscriptions cost £11.99, with a one-year sub costing £39.99.  For the money, subscribers get early or exclusive access to betas, demos and premium downloadable content, and automatic download for system updates. Members of PlayStation Plus also receive the Instant Game Collection: 12 top-rated games plus new games rotating in and out of the collection over time.  The Instant Game Collection is available to members so long as they keep an active subscription; while lapsed, the games are locked and unplayable until the subscription is renewed.
